A woman, her unborn baby and her mother have died in a crash where the car they were travelling in veered onto the wrong side of a north Queensland road. A man in his 30s was driving a Nissan Navara on the rural Shute Harbour Rd in Mount Marlow, near Airlie Beach, when the car crossed into the path of an oncoming Toyota Landcruiser about 1.06pm on Sunday. His pregnant wife, aged 35, was in the front passenger seat and was killed instantly, as was her 60-year-old mother in the back.

“For reasons unknown, the vehicle travelled onto the incorrect side of the road and made impact with a Toyota Landcruiser travelling in the opposite direction,” Acting Inspector Mitch Benson said. “Unfortunately, as a result of that crash, two female persons have been tragically killed.” The two male drivers were flown to Townsville Hospital, both in a critical condition. Another man and two women in the Landcruiser suffered a range of non-life-threatening injuries.
