A man has been shot and killed in the front yard of a house in Brisbane's south-west, with drop-offs at an adjacent primary school and childcare centre likely to be affected.

Police established a crime scene after the fatal shooting at the house on Cliveden Avenue in Oxley at about 3:30am. Authorities are searching for the alleged shooter, and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them. The crime scene has forced the closure of the drop-off zone at Corinda State School on the first day of term four, with parents asked to allow extra time to get their children to school safely.

The crime scene, which is likely to be in place until after 9am, also affects the nearby Eden Academy childcare facility.
