Raymond John Binge was charged with murder after he allegedly threw an elderly man head first over a balcony at a Brisbane unit complex while he was enjoying a quiet afternoon with his wife.
A man who allegedly threw an elderly man over a Brisbane balcony head first has been denied bail by a Supreme Court judge.
Police said Binge never lived at the complex, but he had knocked on the door of several units asking for things.During the bail application in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Thursday, Binge’s lawyer, Joshua Jones, submitted Binge should be released under strict conditions. But the prosecution submitted there was a risk Binge would reoffend, and there was a risk to the community.
She said it appeared Binge’s motivation for the alleged attack was “frustration” for “not having a cigarette” while he was intoxicated.Judge Paul Freeburn denied Binge’s application for release, saying the court could not be satisfied he would comply with conditions. “It is alleged he then threw a 74-year-old man from the balcony, which ultimately led to that man’s death.”
