Six minutes was all it took for a tide to take over the tiny town of Manns Beach this week and locals fear it could happen again before Monday.
Manns Beach is home to about 70 people and was covered in two-and-a-half-feet of water on Wednesday night.Locals will continue the clean-up, but are worried it might happen again in coming days.It took just six minutes for the tiny town of Manns Beach in eastern Victoria to be inundated with water and authorities say it could happen again this weekend.
"We've just bought new beds, new appliances, new everything and it's all had it now," Mr Friend said.The warning for high tides will remain in place until Monday and the Bureau of Meteorology told the ABC it's "a good chance" low-lying towns like Manns Beach could be inundated again. "But what's happening here is those constantly westerlies are pushing up against those areas and with both of these things happening at the same time, as well as high tides, they're going to go even further."ABC Gippsland: Fiona BroomMany in the town are without water, because their electric pumps were destroyed. Septic tanks have also overflowed.
While Gippsland's five ports are not officially closed, fishing crews are erring on the side of caution."All the bigger boats in our fleet are parked up, and also some of the support boats for the Esso platforms – the real big boats – are parked up as well," said Anthony Woodland, head of the Lakes Entrance Fishermen's Coop.
