Premier Mark McGowan has signed his government up to an ambitious 2030 emissions reduction target as he aims to get the state to net-zero emissions by 2050.

All government agencies across the state will be included under the new plan which will see WA commit to a 2030 emissions reduction target of 80 per cent below 2020 levels.

"My government has an ambitious climate agenda, which can be delivered responsibly,” Mr McGowan said. An estimated $3.8 billion will be invested in new green power infrastructure including wind generation and storage in the South West Interconnected System.

"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Sixth Assessment Report found that unless there are rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting climate change impacts in line with the Paris Agreement will be beyond reach,” he said
