Defence Minister Richard Marles criticised the former government during Question Time for its announcement two years ago to establish an industrial base to manufacture guided weapons in Australia.

The announcement, made on March 31, 2021, promised the creation of 2,000 high-tech jobs and an estimated $100 billion investment in missile and guided weapon purchases over the next 20 years.

Mr Marles reveals the job number was not based on any advice from the Department of Defence and was entirely fabricated.
