Richard Marles hopes the $830 million compensation pay-out deal with French submarine contractor Naval Group will help 'reset' Australia’s tense relationship with France; as debate continues over whether Australia has forked out too much.
"It follows discussions that I've had with President Macron and I thank him for those discussions and the cordial way in which we are re-establishing a better relationship between Australia and France," Prime Minister Mr Albanese said.

Mr Albanese says the former government has a lot to answer for.
“It’s a government that will be remembered as the most wasteful government in Australia’s history, since federation.”
