The first semi-final took place last night in Auckland, with Spain emerging victorious over Sweden in a dramatic final 10 minutes.But Sweden, who had precious little possession and even fewer chances, hit back quickly.
The prospect of extra time was put to bed just a minute later, though, when Spain scored a stunning winner to reach their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final.Sweden have now fallen short at the semi-final or final stage of major tournaments seven times in the past 20 years. They were runners-up at the Tokyo Olympics just two years ago - and now they can only play off for third here in Australia.
