With coaching staff intact, GM Nick Caserio and coach Lovie Smith turn attention to...
Brett Coomer, Houston Chronicle / Staff photographer, the Texans can turn their attention to preparing for next season.
The new league year begins March 16, and teams can sign free agents and make trades. The salary cap is projected to be $208.2 million, although that number isn’t official. The Texans are currently $15.9 million under the cap with a league-high $35 million in dead money —what they’re charged for players no longer on the team.
If Watson reaches settlements with his accusers, teams are going to contact Caserio about a possible trade. Last year, he asked for three first-round draft choices and two second-round picks. His deal with Miami fell apart hours before the Nov. 2 trade deadline because Watson couldn’t settle the civil suits.
The Buccaneers make no sense, either. Caserio wants draft choices as high as he can get them, and the Bucs don’t select until 27th.
