Hearing about a coveted, hand-crafted timepiece is always music to the ears of Tony Prochazka.
If you’re wondering how a cosmetic medic might spend his time when he’s not busy with delicate procedures, for Melbourne’s Dr Tony Prochazka, the answer, like his work, relies on his wrist.
Tony Prochazka’s collection includes a Zenith Chronomaster Sport and, from left, an Omega Constellation Megaquartz “Stardust”, Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Art Deco, the 1941 Grönefeld Remontoire, Vacheron Constantin vintage dress watch, Omega Megaquartz Marine Chronometer, and an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase Apollo 11 30th Anniversary.His musical bent led him to tour Europe at age 12 with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra.
A move to China gave him the chance to join a watch club associated with a Malaysian newspaper group. The group published a magazine,, which Prochazka wrote for, necessitating trips to the giant Swiss watch fairs. He met Voutilainen and other notables, coming face to face with their creations. “I ended up with one of Voutilainen’s original 40-odd Observatoire watches,” says Prochazka.
The One Hertz joins a Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire in his collection of about 60 watches ranging from the everyday – he’s wearing a Longines Avigation reissue as we speak – to six-figure pieces he’d never part with.
