Meet the Mugler collector who owns more than 500 pieces of the designer's most incredible pieces
from some of his biggest fans and collaborators, showing the extraordinary impact he has had on so many lives., who fell in love with the designer’s work after seeing a YouTube video of his 20th anniversary show, held at the Cirque d’Hiver in Paris in 1995, while in her 20s. “I just remember thinking ‘This is me’,” Scott, who is originally from Chicago, tellsover the phone. “As soon as I saw that show, I saw myself. I remember thinking ‘I have to have these clothes’.

My boyfriend saw how much I was obsessed with Mugler and he started buying me pieces for gifts, for Christmas.”For Scott, it’s both the construction of the pieces and the way they make her feel when she wears them that appeals so much. “I’m a sculptor, so I really appreciate how things are built,” she says. “His pieces feel like sculpture when you put them on; they make you sit taller. The seams follow the form of the body; it’s [almost] like a digital scan of the body.
While Scott’s extensive archive spans the ’80s to the early ’00s, her favorite collections remain the fall 1995 couture show and the spring 1988 collection entitled ‘African Summer’. “That collection changed my life,” she says. “My dream is to collect that entire collection, because that was the first time that I’d seen the Black woman honored in such a way.
