But on Wednesday evening, she was house-sitting for her brother and his wife in Melbourne ’s west, taking care of their dog, while the young couple were away on their honeymoon overseas, when the unthinkable happened.About 2am on Thursday, the 27-year-old university worker made a panicked triple-zero call.Hours later, police would stand outside the blackened, scorched remains of the badly burned three-storey townhouse, telling reporters crowded outside that Katie had been killed by mistake.
3 Fates Media, an independent media company specialising in burlesque photography, paid tribute to Katie, who performed under the stage-name Vivian May-Royale. “The grief we all feel for our sister Katie … and her loving family rests heavy on all our hearts but we remember her now and always as a bright, shining star.”Before her performance, the group described her as “a dazzling performer with a Hollywood smile and magnetic charisma” and a “fierce elegance has lit up runways”.
In a staement, Victoria University said:“Katie Tangey was a valued and respected staff member at Victoria University. We are deeply saddened by this news and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.”“She’s been subjected to the most appalling, despicable act one could imagine,” Detective Inspector Chris Murray, head of the arson squad, said.
