A tabby cat's leg has been amputated after it went missing from Werribee and was found stuck in an illegal trap several days later.

The RSPCA is investigating an alleged act of animal cruelty after a pet cat was injured in an illegal trap, leading to the amputation of its leg.Leghold traps, also known as steel-jawed traps, are illegal in urban areas of VictoriaA 12-year-old female tabby-coloured cat named Abby went missing from Greaves Street North in Werribee on April 14.The cat's paw was mutilated and its leg was broken, resulting in the leg having to be amputated."[She] suffered excruciating pain and distress.

RSPCA Victoria inspectors are canvassing the neighbourhood surrounding the area where the cat lived and are asking the public to report any information they have about who set the traps.
