A Melbourne family had a lucky escape when a tobacco shop attached to their property was targeted by arsonists who drove a car into the building and set it alight. Fire crews were called to the store on Coonans Rd, Pascoe Vale South about 3.15am on Monday to find heavy smoke and flames coming from two shopfronts and two cars.
Two shops and cars catch fire in suspected arson attack One of the cars had been rammed into a tobacco store and set alight, while the second car was parked on the road outside the shop. A family who lived in a home attached to the store escaped unharmed. Thirty firefighters battled the blaze, preventing it from spreading to any neighbouring shops. “The adjoining properties were fortunate that able to stop the extension of fire to them,” Fire Rescue Victoria Commander Tony Milczakowsky said.
