A Melbourne woman killed in a freak incident on a city freeway has been identified as a beloved mother of four. Mary-Anne Cutajar, 46, was driving on the M80 Ring Rd in St Albans when a metal object authorities believe came loose from a passing truck smashed through her windscreen about 4pm on Thursday. No one else was in the car with the Deer Park woman and she died at the scene. “We are all in shock, we don’t understand how it could happen,” one relative said, the Herald Sun reported.

Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle from which they believe the item came loose. The driver did not stop and continued travelling towards Altona. It is unknown if the driver is even aware of the incident. The metal object has been revealed as a Riv-Nail Driver system, a specialised tool for maintaining conveyor belts. “The tool is part of a system for installing rivets to securely fasten metal clips onto the end of conveyor belts,” police said.
