Melburnians looking for a rapid easing of the state’s strict lockdowns have had their hopes dashed after Premier Daniel Andrews unveiled his roadmap on Sunday which will see restrictions in place until at least the end of November. The Premier announced Victoria’s stage four lockdown would be extended for two weeks until September 28 under minor changes, which included pushing the curfew back to 9pm until 5am.
From October 26, if the average daily caseload sat at five or less for two weeks, Melbourne’s curfew would be lifted with all restrictions on leaving the home repealed. Under this move, public gatherings of up to 10 people would also be allowed, while all students would begin a staged return to school. Cafes would be allowed to reopen under strict restrictions, as well as retail stores.
