Mr Gerritsen said the result could be critical in shaping the next two years of Northern Territory politics ahead of the 2024 election.

Mr Gerritsen also said the by-election would reveal if the message of Lia Finocchiaro, who declared the CLP "was back" after the party delivered a much-improved result at the 2020 election, was resonating with voters."It certainly won't help if the CLP doesn't make a strong showing at least, and, if possible, win the seat.
The two candidates with realistic chances of winning the by-election are Labor's Brent Potter, a former political staffer and defence force veteran, and the Country Liberal Party's Ben Hosking, a small business owner, party treasurer and former police officer.
