Things move fast in college football. Nothing moves faster than the recruiting calendar. AriWasserman’s thoughts on where teams stand heading into an important month loaded with official visits:
• Is there a head coach who needs to have good cycle more than Billy Napier at Florida? Gators fans are bracing themselves for another tough season on the field, so Napier has to give those fans something to grab onto, something to provide some hope. What works better than signing a top-tier recruiting class? That’s especially true given Florida’s previous coach, Dan Mullen, never really hit it out of the park in that category.including five-star quarterback D.J.
. The Gators signed only four top-50 prospects in the previous four classes combined. The foundation is there for a home run. It’s going to be fun watching Napier cook for the next six months since the Gators have only eight total commitments. Florida has a real shot to land in the top 10 this year, which would be its first time since the 2020 cycle.
• Ohio State’s recruiting class checks in at No. 3, one spot behind Michigan. The Buckeyes have two five-star prospects and two other top-100 players committed. The two five-star prospects are wide receivers . The other top-100 players areand running back James Peoples of San Antonio Veterans Memorial. All four are skill-position players.
• Only one of Oregon’s 14 commitments is ranked in the top 100. That doesn’t mean Dan Lanning hasn’t done a good job for the. It’s a relatively deep class with influential pulls from Maryland, Oklahoma, Texas and California. At the end of May, Oregon landed four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren of Baltimore St. Frances Academy from clear across the country. I just wonder if Oregon’s geography makes it downright impossible to sign a class comprised of 10 top-100 players.
