It's time to say goodbye to an extra hour of morning snooze with daylight savings set to kick in from the first Sunday of October.
Daylight savings to kick in: Millions of Australians will lose an hour of sleep as clocks tick forward
With the sun expected to rise earlier and set later as the nation heads into hotter months, all five southern states and territories will observe the ritual of daylight savings - New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania - but Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory will be left behind.
The time will automictically update on smartphones and other clever devices , while clocks and analog watches will need to be wound back manually. Contrastingly, most Europeans and Americans follow daylight savings with more than 70 countries across the world also observing the ritual so residents can enjoy an extra hour of sunrays during the summertime.
