NSW Premier Chris Minns has stood by his decision to hike up tolls on the only government-controlled toll roads in the state.
The government says the price increase is about ensuring equity across toll roads in the state, the majority of which have seen multiple hikes of around 4 per cent annually under private operator Transurban, which runs most toll roads in Sydney.
“So there’s been no fairness when it comes to tolls across the Sydney metropolitan area, and I think that’s consistent with what we went to the election with.” Tolls for the Harbour Bridge and Tunnel haven't risen since 2009. A trip from over the Harbour Bridge has gone from 4 dollars to 4 dollars. “So there needed to be some fairness between those that live in the east and the west, and any money we raise will go back into toll relief.”
