Rabiha felt lonely in her new home on the other side of the world, until she discovered the magic of stories and learned how to create a community.
Having seen people from all walks of life as the family settled into Dandenong, Rabiha woke up brimming with excitement when her first day of school arrived.However, it was much more difficult than she'd anticipated.
Rabiha used books to learn English — progressing from kindergarten-level stories to young adult novels. "We went to the doctor and my dad told me to talk to the receptionist. He said, 'It's OK if you make mistakes. You can try again and ask them to clarify. You can do it," Rabiha recalls.With new skills under her belt and her confidence nurtured, Rabiha once again turned her focus to making friends.One day, Rabiha was searching for a book in the Dandenong Library when she spotted a familiar face.Rabiha approached her and struck up a conversation.
