A flurry of interest has emerged with the pre-selection race truly heating up in the blue-ribbon electorate.Karly Abbott is firming up as the candidate most likely to replaceKaren Andrews, who currently holds the neighbouring seat of McPherson, has told Sky News 2600 a diverse applicant field will benefit the Liberal National Party.

“I am keen that there are more women, I am keen to make sure our selection pool is as large as it possibly can be, we know women are underrepresented. I think we are getting more women to nominate.”and believes an increase in female participation at the grassroots level is key to long-term reform. “What we need to do is get that to the next step and get them pre-selected in seats that are winnable, but that’s not a case of parachuting a female in to a position. What we need to do is have a grassroots revival, increasing our party base of women.”

The electorate of Moncrieff is currently held with a margin of 14.9 per cent, making it one of the safest seats for the government.
