More COVID-19 tests confirm fewer cases in Auckland | jamesmassola
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield highlighted a “mini outbreak” at the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship Church, where five people previously tested positive for COVID-19.
He asked anyone who had attended services at the church on August 7, 8, 9 or 11, to isolate at home and get tested.Genome sequencing is underway to confirm whether the cases at the church are linked to the broader Auckland cluster. On the shift to begin testing asymptomatic people, Bloomfield said the move was “part of our surveillance program to ensure we have identified the full extent of the current outbreak”.
Health Minister Chris Hipkins said the government had distributed more than 3 million masks to community groups and supermarkets to ensure adequate supply before they become mandatory on public transport next week. The edict extends to buses, taxis, trains, ride-sharing vehicles and ferries. Auckland will remain under level-three lockdown until 11.59pm on Sunday night, while the rest of New Zealand is under level two restrictions.Get our Coronavirus Update newsletter for the day's crucial developments at a glance, the numbers you need to know and what our readers are saying.
