Scott Morrison has broken his silence as he faces ongoing backlash from the Albanese Government and the Coalition over his decision to secretly take charge of three key portfolios.

The former Liberal leader took extraordinary steps during the pandemic to seize control of the health, finance and resources portfolios while keeping many of his Cabinet colleagues in the dark.

The former prime minister has spoken out amid revelations he took on three additional portfolios in the last term of Parliament. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Gary Ramage “What they didn't know was that Scott Morrison was running a shadow government, a shadow government that was operating in the shadows.” Sky News Australia Chief Anchor Kieran Gilbert contacted the former prime minister to offer him a right of reply to Mr Albanese’s scathing rebuke.

In a statement to Sky News Australia, a spokesperson for His Excellency said the appointments to the three extra portfolios were “made consistently” with Section 64 of the Constitution.
