A senior Coalition frontbencher has defended Scott Morrison’s decision to secretly take on the role of health minister as the former PM faces significant backlash from both sides of politics.

Governor General David Hurley has confirmed Mr Morrison administered additional ministries during the last term of Parliament after The Australian and News.com.au revealed he took on the health, finance and resources portfolios.

Australians need a Prime Minister who's focused on the job that they're given. Nothing about the last government was real, not even the government itself,” the Prime Minister said at a press conference in Melbourne on Monday.
