A 20-year-old swimming instructor and Knox alumni will spend at least the next week behind bars, after allegedly sexually abusing two pupils, aged six and eight, at Mosman Swim School

A 20-year-old swimming instructor will spend at least the next week behind bars, after allegedly sexually abusing two pupils, aged six and eight, at a Mosman swim school.

Police allege Kyle Daniels, a graduate of the prestigious Knox Grammar School who attends Sydney University, sexually touched the younger girl on February 2 this year. Detectives have charged him with raping the eight-year-old girl less than a fortnight later, on February 14.Credit:It is understood the alleged abuse took place in and around the pool used for swimming lessons.

Investigations began when the girls told their parents, who reported the alleged sexual assaults to the swim school which in turn told police.Following inquiries, detectives arrested the man at a Balgowlah home just before midday on Tuesday. The man was taken to Manly police station where he was charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years, and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10.Mr Daniels did not appear in Manly Local Court where his matter was briefly mentioned. He did not apply for bail, which was formally refused, but will return to the same court next week to make a bid for bail.

"These young brave kids put their hands up to mum and dad and said 'something happened'... That is exceptionally brave."
