A couple from Japan have caused a massive divide online after sharing the “hack” that calms their crying one-year-old son.

Fuki Sato, a mother from Japan, decided the best way to stop her son from crying when she wasn’t around was to create life-size cardboard cutouts of herself and place them throughout her home. But her unusual parenting technique has divided the internet when her husband shared a video on Twitter, revealing it calmed their one-year-old son.Source:Twitter

In the footage, shared by the toddler’s father @sato_nezi, Ms Sato puts one of the cutouts at the entrance to the kitchen as her son plays in front of the television. With her son oblivious to what’s happening behind him, Mrs Sato then sneaks out of the room and closes the door. When the toddler turns around, appearing to be searching for his mother, he quickly carries on playing with a big grin on his face after he “sees his mother” in the room.

The boy’s father captioned the video: “It’s hard because my one-year-old child cries as soon as mum disappears.“As a result, it is not noticed for about 20 minutes. This panel may be useful occasionally,” he added. The video has been viewed 2.1 million times, with some viewers questioning the couple’s parenting decision. She also created one of herself kneeling down. A video of her son’s reaction to the cardboard cutouts was shared on Twitter, with more than two million people viewing the footage. Picture: Twitter / Sato Nezi“Oh that’s the worst. Your mum is there, you want her, she stares coldly at you, still and silent. Yuck.
