A 46-year-old woman has been charged with murder after she was taken into custody overnight when a ten-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slashed at a Carrara, Queensland residence on Tuesday night.

Police attended the home on Queensland's Gold Coast just after 6pm on Tuesday, where they located the child unresponsive.It is understood the ten-year-old's father had located her and called emergency services. Police tracked down the 46-year-old woman around 10.25pm on Tuesday and she was taken into custody before being charged with murder early Wednesday morning.Speaking at a media conference on Tuesday night, Queensland Police Inspector Lou Serafim described the scene as “traumatic”.
“At this point in time we are treating the death of the 10-year-old girl as suspicious, and investigations are currently underway in relation to the demise of the girl.
