A furious father-of-two has lashed out at the Queensland government in an explosive rant after he was almost the victim of a carjacking while his two kids were inside the vehicle.

Townsville man Chris Thurley was at Willows Shopping Centre at Kirwan about 9.15am on Wednesday while his wife was waiting for him outside their unlocked and running car which was parked and had their six-month old baby and two-year-old toddler in it.

“This is our government letting this happen, putting families at risk. It’s a joke, mate. It’s an absolute joke -and the police are powerless to do anything about it because they’re not f***ing allowed to!” he said. “My partner will now have a complex with shopping centre car parks and trauma associated every time she goes to the shopping centre.Premier Palaszczuk fronted the media on Thursday morning to announce plans for the government to invest in a new $250 million remand facility for youth offenders in Brisbane.

The Premier said it is imperative that young people have a place to go “which is not in long-term watchhouses”.
