While the contents of the peculiar black balls has yet to be determined, initial reports have indicated the debris resembled “tar balls” potentially formed from oil spills. NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe provided an update at Parliament House and confirmed the Environmental Protection Authority was investigating.

“We hope to get to the bottom of what is a pretty unusual situation as quickly as possible,” Ms Sharpe said. Randwick Council Mayor Dylan Parker further elaborated on the ongoing efforts and told NCA NewsWire more information would be provided soon.
