Prime Minister Scott Morrison fails to convince Western Australia to join the rest of the country in aiming to take down borders and ease restrictions by Christmas.
WA Premier Mark McGowan said it was too early to consider altering the state's hard border by December, given community transmission was still occurring in the east.
Mr Morrison has also flagged allowing New Zealanders to come into Australia if they are not coming from or going to a hotspot, something he said New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was interested in discussing further.Mr Morrison did not provide detail on how a roadmap to eased restrictions would work.
The plan was derailed by the outbreak in Victoria, however Mr Morrison said the new plan would be "better defined" than what had been discussed previously. "It isn't just about how many people you can have in a cafe … it's about how the testing regimes have to work, the availability of passenger manifests for people moving around the country, the surveillance testing arrangements."Hotspot definition a 'starting point'
