Nationals leader David Littleproud has confirmed the party will not support an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. The Nationals are the only major party to announce their opposition, with the Liberal Party yet to reveal its position. 9News MORE:

He said the party had concluded that the proposal, designed to give Indigenous communities a route to help inform policy and legal decisions that impact their lives, wouldn't "close the gap".

He said the party instead believed in "empowering local Indigenous communities... to give those communities the opportunities that those in metropolitan Australia enjoy every day". The Voice could make representations to parliament and the government on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
