Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's release last week was a huge cause for celebration and a victory - finally - for justice for the mum of one after she was imprisoned in Iran in 2016. LINK
"You smell nice," Gabriella told her mummy, before Nazanin replied: "Do I? But I haven't had a shower for 24 hours!" “For Nazanin, Gabriella is all she can talk about,” continued the MP. “They can’t stop hugging each other and kissing. “Obviously those early years are really, really important. And for most of her daughter's life, Nazanin has been away - bar the occasional visit and remote communication like on Skype,” says Dr Reid.
“There's been lots of false dawns with this story - when it looked like Nazanin had been coming home from prison, and then she didn’t. I’m sure Richard, Gabriella’s father, was sensItive about allowing his daughter false hope. “In other words, it’s as if they’re feeling ‘the more self sufficient I am, the less reliant I am upon the behaviours and the actions of others’. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months and years.”
