Former NBA player DwyaneWade has delivered a powerful speech, talking about his son Zion, that every person should take note of.
Wade and Union have been vocal in defending their child as they allow her to grow into herself. Union even took Zion to a Gay Pride March, with Wade saying it made him feel a sense of duty to speak up and use his platform.
A family photo from thanksgiving drew ugly comments and Wade responded to the negativity that was thrown Zion’s way. Wade has spent a majority of his life within the NBA system which has seen only one athlete, Jason Collins, come out to the public during his playing career. “Now, there’s some things that, while you’re trying to go down that process, these are some things that are going to come at you. There’s going to be negativity, it’s going to be a lot of hate. It’s not even just from my son’s sexuality, it’s just about being a young Black man and everything that comes with that.
