One of Ann Mossop’s first big challenges is to attract audiences back in numbers, after two years of pandemic impacted events | jasonfsteger
More than 20 years ago, Ann Mossop was on the board of Sydney Writers’ Festival when it broke free of the Sydney Festival to become an independent cultural organisation. Now she’s returning to the festival as artistic director, succeeding Michael Williams who steered it through the past two Covid-impacted years.
She said one of the challenges for SWF was to tackle the impact of COVID on the behaviour of audiences. “What’s the difference between looking at something on screen and being live in an audience. What is the festival for? I think a festival really has to be about the live experience no matter that there will be things that happen in other ways.”
“It’s not that those people are not in there but from my point of view it’s a question of what are the really critical issues that we’re thinking about now and who are people who can help us think that through.”
