WA has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the community after two truck drivers entered the state from New South Wales while infectious.
The men visited four locations on their journey to Perth, including the South Australia-WA border, a BP truckstop at Norseman, IOR Petroleum at Widgiemooltha, Mobil in Yellowdine, Shell in Southern Cross and a Kewdale warehouse 10km east of Perth, where they slept in their truck. The WA Premier said his government was treating the situation seriously but could avoid a lockdown because the system had worked.“We got informed by their employer, mind you, that they had tested positive.
“We’re currently consulting with the industry about making vaccinations compulsory for interstate truck drivers,” he said. Logistic workers are exempt from state border closures, however must adhere to strict protocols including surveillance testing and minimising interactions with the public.
