Police said the arrest was an 'important first phase' in the investigation into the murder of Taha Sabbagh, who was gunned down outside a Western Sydney gym last month.
Mr Sabbagh, 40, was dropping a 12-year-old off at Sefton's Elite Fight Force, in Western Sydney, in the early hours of March 2, when he wasAt least one gunman jumped out of a Mazda CX3 and unloaded his weapon into a luxury Mercedes SUV where the father and boy were seated in the front seats.
The 26-year-old was about to board a flight bound for Vietnam when he was intercepted, according to police. He said on the day of the shooting the man had driven the assailants to the Mazda CX3 in Sefton and placed a silver Volkswagen in Birrong, near Bankstown, to be used as a second getaway vehicle.
