As Jacinda Ardern's popularity declines to a record five year low, new polling reveals that the centre-right Nationals could have the numbers to form government at the next New Zealand election.
Support for Ms Ardern fell by three points to 30 per cent, marking her worst approval rating since coming into office in 2017.also revealed the Labour Party has dropped to a 33 per cent primary vote, behind the National Party - Labour's main opposition - which now leads on 37 per cent.
David Seymour, Leader of right wing party ACT, told Sky News Australia last month that Jacinda Ardern’s government is “slowly unravelling” and losing its popularity. “But that doesn’t mean that they’re not doing real damage and you’re starting to see an outflow of New Zealanders," Mr Seymour said. Although the Nationals dipped two points on their May results, they still lead as preferred party on 37 per cent.
In 2020, the party won a majority government with 65 seats to govern alone for the first time since 1996.
