The ACT Supreme Court has set a new trial date in October for the man accused of raping former staffer Brittany Higgins.
The delayed trial of the man accused of raping former political staffer Brittany Higgins in Parliament House in 2019 will now happen in October.
Lehrmann’s barrister, Steve Whybrow, suggested the trial be moved to the start of 2023, saying “the bushfire is still burning to some effect” but McCallum disagreed. The prosecutor also flagged there were potentially five books being written that might canvass the allegation, including works by Niki Savva, who is a columnist for this masthead, News Corp journalist Samantha Maiden and Ten’s political editor Peter van Onselen.
