The final poll ahead of the Victorian state election has put the incumbent Labor Party in prime position to secure a third historic term, with Daniel Andrews tipped to defy minority government concerns.
The Newspoll conducted for The Australian and released on the eve of the election showed Labor is set to retain between 45-50 of the 88 seats in parliament.
The primary vote for the Coalition has fallen slightly in the last three weeks from 37 down to 35 per cent, while Labor increased by one percentage point to 38.Mr Andrews' satisfaction results has also significantly dipped from 51 to 46 per cent, with those dissatisfied lifting by four points to 48 per cent.
It comes after a survey by bi-partisan RedBridge Group earlier this week that suggested Mr Andrews will be forced to form a minority government. There is also a suggestion Mr Andrews could lose his seat of Mulgrave, where he is being challenged by independent Ian Cook.
