The Brisbane-based company told shareholders that it had signed the largest amount of new contracts in the company’s history during the last financial year.

NextDC CEO Craig Scroggie says the demand for AI will generate “extraordinary growth” for the data centre company.During the year, capital expenditure increased 14 per cent to $690.4 million and NextDC forecasts it will need to spend from $850 million to $900 million this year to support the 13 data centres it operates and another nine centres that are in development.
“There’s just so much digital infrastructure that needs to be built to support the growth of cloud and artificial intelligence,” Mr Scroggie said, adding that NextDC was just starting to work with customers to plan their infrastructure needs for generative AI, which were not included in the company’s forecasts.“It’s really just starting to become evident how much new digital infrastructure will need to be built every year here in Australia to support the growth of AI,” Mr Scroggie said.
Mr Scroggie said that NextDC had signed the largest amount of new contracts in the company’s history during the 12 months to June 30, with customer numbers increasing 13 per cent to 1820 and contracted utilisation up 47 per cent to 122.2MW.
