Even with 20 pegs anchoring the jumping castle, the 'final outcome' of the Tasmanian Hillcrest tragedy would have been the same, a court has been told.

Loved ones of children who died after a ' dust devil ' caused a jumping castle to take flight at end-of-year school celebrations have waited years for the criminal case to be heard.A mechanical engineering expert has told a court even with 20 pegs anchoring the jumping castle , the "final outcome" of the Tasmania n Hillcrest tragedy in 2021 would have been the same.

Outside the Devonport Magistrates Court where the case is being heard, a cushion honouring Zane Mellor, who died as a result of the tragedy, is carried by loved ones.Ms Gamble owned the business Taz-Zorb, which supplied the jumping castle and zorb balls to the school on that day, and is accused of failing to properly anchor the castle to the ground.

This ran counter to the evidence of prosecution witness and mechanical engineer Roderick McDonald, who said that if Taz-Zorb had used eight star pickets that were available to them on the day, the castle would have remained anchored to the ground. Professor Eager said that if Ms Gamble was provided four pegs by East Inflatables, the Chinese manufacturer, she had no reason to think she would need any more.
