The international student community in Darwin is 'shocked and scared' for their lives after a home invader allegedly attacked a 23-year-old Bangladeshi student in bed, leaving him in 'a pool of blood'.
A Darwin community member has declared"no one is even safe inside their home" after an international student was assaulted and left to die in his own bed.
“It’s totally devastating,” Bangladeshi community member Nafisur Rahman told Sky News host Laura Jayes on Thursday. NT Police received reports at about 4.30am on Wednesday that an unknown man had unlawfully entered a property on Trower Road in the northern Darwin suburb of Millner. According to a surgeon at the RDH, the student was found by his housemates “in a pool of his own blood” as the burglar fled with a fire extinguisher in hand.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said the incident would have appalling implications on the city’s status as a relatively “safe” study destination for overseas students. The Bangladeshi Student Association at CDU and the Islamic Society of Darwin will rally behind the young student at a peaceful protest on Thursday afternoon.
