Managing director Caroline Carnegie says lifetime bans may not be a strong enough punishment for those who invaded the pitch at the Melbourne derby on Saturday night, injuring Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover.
Melbourne Victory’s managing director Caroline Carnegie says lifetime bans may not be a strong enough punishment for those who invaded the pitch at the Melbourne derby on Saturday night, injuring Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover.
“It’s very difficult for us to suggest there isn’t a greater risk when you see what happened last night,” she said.“We’ll work with Victoria Police first, there’s obviously a police investigation, then we’ll work with Football Australia in relation to what happens as a result [of that police investigation].”
Glover was released from Epworth Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning, after he was taken there for further checks. He has been cleared of any additional injuries. It said it was yet to make any arrests and believed between 150-200 Victory fans came onto the pitch.

Goalkeeper hospitalised after ‘ugly behaviour’ from fans during A-League derbyMelbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover received several stitches in hospital overnight after being the victim of “ugly behaviour” from fans in last night’s A-League derby, according to Sky News Reporter Holly Edwards-Smith. Last night’s derby between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory was abandoned after fans stormed the pitch and attacked Glover with a bin. Football Australia announced an investigation into the incident would commence immediately, with strong sanctions to be handed down. “This has really been a day in Australian football that hasn’t been seen before,” Ms Edwards-Smith said. “Many people have been taking to social media with their distaste for those fans who decided to partake in this particularly ugly behaviour yesterday.”
