Victorian Deputy Premier Ben Carroll has refused to defend a $70,000 European tour Tim Pallas took just two months before retiring from Parliament in December.
Victoria n Deputy Premier Ben Carroll has refused to defend an"international farewell tour" undertaken by the state's former treasurer, after it was revealed Tim Pallas spent more than $70,000 on travel to four European countries just two months before resigning.
Mr Pallas travelled to the UK, France, Italy, and Spain on the trip, with the total cost to taxpayers being $72,683. This included more than $37,000 on airfares, $22,000 on accommodation, and almost $13,000 on other expenses. “They have to provide value for the taxpayer…. You write a written report, and you justify it, and you highlight what economic activity it has produced,” the Deputy Premier said.
An analysis of the former treasurer’s travel, released this month, shows Mr Pallas spent more than $650,000 during the last 10 years in government.
