North Queensland faces the threat of major flooding as another deluge of rain is expected. The Bureau of Meteorology warns of heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding across multiple areas. Meanwhile, other parts of eastern Australia, including NSW and Victoria, are also experiencing severe weather with heavy rain and storm warnings in place.

Communities in North Queensland are facing another round of severe weather as a deluge of rain threatens to unleash major flooding across multiple areas. The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning early Monday morning for parts of Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

These regions are bracing for heavy rainfall, with potential totals reaching up to 250 mm over 24 hours, significantly increasing the risk of life-threatening flash flooding. The warning comes just days after the Bruce Highway in Ayr was reopened following flood closures. Meteorologist Rob Sharpe explained that a low-pressure system will be moving eastwards over the next two days, bringing heavy rainfall from Ayr to Tully and areas further west before heading out to sea on Wednesday. While some respite is expected on Wednesday, the next 48 hours remain critical for residents in North Queensland. Last week, flooding caused widespread devastation in towns throughout the region, notably Ingham, which was left isolated and largely submerged. The Burdekin Shire Council's local disaster management group issued an emergency alert on Sunday ahead of the major flood warning, though it was later downgraded to 'stay informed' advice. The heavy rainfall is not confined to North Queensland. Other parts of eastern Australia, including NSW and Victoria, are also bracing for heavy rain and storms. A severe weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of eastern Victoria, where some areas recorded around 100 mm overnight. Residents in Gippsland and parts of West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts are on alert, with the possibility of heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. Similarly, NSW is facing three weather warnings, with flash flooding a concern along the south coast from Wollongong to Eden, where up to 120 mm of rain is predicted. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, large hailstones, and damaging winds are also threatening the Tablelands region. The Wollondilly/Wingecarribee area has been specifically targeted with a 'very dangerous thunderstorms' warning, indicating the potential for locally intense rainfall, giant hailstones, and destructive winds
