The Greens and the Coalition have copped criticism from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in a press conference on Monday as he lamented the delay of one of the government’s critical housing schemes in the Senate.

'Not putting forward serious policies': Prime Minister levels criticism at Coalition and Greens as key housing bill delayed in Senate

The Labor leader simply responded by saying he was confident he would be able to form a majority government after the next election before hitting out at the Opposition. "A modern Liberal Party that was advocating the breaking up of companies, that was advocating nationalising a section of the energy industry sometime in the 2040s in order to delay what the market is delivering now which is investment in renewables.

He then claimed the Greens have been deferring votes on matters, pointing to the Help to Buy scheme which remains stuck in the Senate and could potentially bring on a double dissolution election should it fail to pass. “First they voted to put it off. Then they voted to put off another two months. What for? If you have an amendment to legislation, move it. And you know who their partners are in that? Peter Dutton.”

"That strikes me as the prime minister playing politics and being willing to see the bill fail rather than negotiate its passage."The Prime Minister went on in the press conference to claim his government remained focused on improving the lives of Australians, indicating he was about to fly to Perth for more talks about critical minerals.
