Any hope of a return to the NRL, where he began his career, has evaporated for Israel Folau after ARLC chairman Peter Beattie said the dual international failed the character test and they would not register a contract.
The NRL has slammed the door shut on offering a career lifeline to under-fire cross-code star Israel Folau.
"Israel Folau fails the NRL's inclusiveness culture, which is a policy strongly supported by the ARLC," Mr Beattie told AAP.PM says posts were 'terribly insensitive' "It is important that people act with love, care and compassion to their fellow citizens and to speak sensitively to their fellow Australians."Rugby Australia and NSW Rugby Union announced on Thursday they would terminate the player's contract, following his"disrespectful" social media posts about homosexuals a day earlier.
"Whilst Israel is entitled to his religious beliefs, the way in which he has expressed these beliefs is inconsistent with the values of the sport. We want to make it clear that he does not speak for the game with his recent social media posts," the joint statement said. After the initial post on Wednesday Folau doubled down, tweeting"the devil has blindsided so many people in this world, REPENT and turn away from your evil ways".
"It does not represent the values of the sport and is disrespectful to members of the Rugby community," the statement read.Folau was under contract until 2022, has won 73 caps and is a key part of Michael Cheika's plans for the tournament in Japan.
