The NRLW’s expansion has been fast-tracked with the Cowboys, Raiders, Sharks and Wests Tigers all set to field new sides in a 10-team competition in 2023, despite reservations from players and coaches over sustainability and player talent.

The fact Canberra and North Queensland can draw from healthy playing stocks outside the current NRLW pool was taken into consideration, as were the southern and western Sydney footprints offered by Cronulla and the Tigers.
