BREAKING: The body of an elderly woman has been found in Lismore this morning by a member of the public. The 80 year old is yet to be formally identified. 9News

The woman's body was found inside a Lismore home on Ewing Street around 10.20am today by a member of the public who was concerned for her wellbeing.People all across Lismore have been rescued.

The emergency continues throughout much of northern New South Wales, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning the rest of the state's east coast to brace for conditions to travel south.Dean Narramore, from the Bureau of Meteorology, says there is a severe weather warning for heavy rain and damaging winds stretching from the NSW Mid North Coast through to Sydney and all the way down the South Coast.

"We could see six-hourly rain totals, with isolated falls in excess of that, and possibly up to 200mm," Mr Narramore added.LIVE UPDATES:NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said there are 26 evacuation orders across NSW affecting 40,000 people, with 17 local government areas declared disaster zones.

"We've all seen the devastating images of people in the flood zones, in the Northern Rivers," Mr Perrottet added. "I would implore people to prepare - and that extends to people in Sydney and also to people now on the South Coast," she said. Ballina Mayor Sharon Cadwallader has described the crisis flooding as a one-in-500-year weather event."We have the river at the end of our street there and basically it is just flowing fairly quickly up our street," she told Today.Ms Cook said the water was filling their backyard and "inches away" from coming inside."I have never seen this. We have been here for about seven or eight years and we have never seen anything like this before.
